Die casting at SBV Stahltechnik: Process, benefits & more

Do you need a component that feels precise, functions repeatedly, and can be economically manufactured? Then die casting is the answer. SBV Stahltechnik advises and manufactures die-cast parts through connected plants in China. With clear technical advice, reliable production, and coordination by a dedicated contact person.

Why die casting is more than just a manufacturing process

Die casting is far more than merely filling a mold with metal. It is a precise process for components where shape, surface, and material must merge within a short time. Molten aluminum is injected into a shaping tool under high pressure. The result: a precisely dimensioned component with defined structure and constant repeatability.

The unique aspect is that die casting enables series that are not only economical but also technically stable. It is in demand wherever components need to not only look good but also function reliably in use.

This is how a die-cast part is created: From idea to series

Tool design

A precise die-casting tool forms the negative contour of the desired component. It must be adjusted for temperature, volume, and demoldability.

Injection of aluminum

Molten aluminum is pressed into the mold with high pressure. This moment decides the fill behavior, dimensional accuracy, and surface structure.

Cooling and solidification

Rapid solidification ensures a fine-grained structure and good dimensional accuracy. We already consider typical die-cast porosities in the tool design.

Removal and post-processing

After opening the mold, the part is removed. Gates are removed, and the component is cleaned. All gates and burrs are removed. Thus, the part is perfectly prepared for the next step.

Quality control and more

Our inspections include dimensional accuracy, spectral analyses, and, upon request, 3.1 factory certificates. This way, you receive secured evidence of material quality. Subsequently, we can further machine the components if needed.

Aluminum as a material: Light, durable, versatile

We rely on aluminum in die casting because it combines lightness with strength and offers excellent castability. It is suitable for components with delicate structures, integrated details, and clearly defined functions.

We use proven aluminum die-casting alloys according to EN 1706, e.g., EN AC-46000 (AlSi9Cu3) for high strength and good machinability, or EN AC-44300 (AlSi12) for excellent flowability and surface quality.

We advise on the selection based on the purpose, mechanical requirements, and environmental conditions. After all, not every alloy works the same – but every alloy can be used specifically.

Where other processes reach their limits, die casting begins to convince

Anyone who wants to economically and accurately produce a component in series can hardly avoid die casting. While other processes have proven themselves in smaller quantities, prototypes, or high-strength individual parts, die casting shows its strengths in repeatability, the combination of geometry & function, and also in the speed of series production.

What is decisive is not whether a process works technically. What matters is whether it is suitable for your component, your quantity, and your project goal. This is precisely where we advise: neutrally, technically sound, and with the aim of finding the most economically sensible solution.

How SBV Stahltechnik reliably accompanies your die casting project

SBV Stahltechnik carefully examines each customer inquiry for technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness. The focus is not only on the casting itself but on the entire process chain from consultation to the idea to assembly-ready delivery. The process is as follows:

Inquiry and data review

You send us your drawings or 3D data as well as information on the application area, quantity, material, and desired tolerances. We assess whether the component is designed for manufacturability or if adaptations are necessary.

Technical consultation

Our casting specialists review geometry, material selection, and functional requirements. If necessary, we make recommendations for the appropriate aluminum alloy according to EN 1706 for your application.

Series production in our plant in Asia

Production takes place through our plants in Asia. SBV Stahltechnik takes full responsibility for technical alignment, quality assurance, and logistical coordination. This way, you receive your components reliably and on schedule from a single source.

Quality control and documentation

Before delivery, each die-cast part is inspected. We document dimensional accuracy, material quality, and, if desired, surface parameters. Thus, you receive not only a component but a secure system component with verified properties.

Functions that can be integrated into the casting

The process allows numerous functions to be directly integrated into the component:

  • Holding and fastening structures
  • Thread areas can be executed as pre-form, requiring only minimal post-processing
  • Snap hooks, guide grooves, or fitting surfaces
Reinforcements for stabilization when force is applied

Each of these functions saves a processing step and reduces the likelihood of errors during assembly. SBV Stahltechnik plans these details early on and optimally tunes them to your application.

Application areas: Everywhere technique meets form

The die-cast parts from SBV Stahltechnik are found in numerous applications. What they have in common is that they must function reliably, often in confined spaces, under mechanical load, and with exact repeatability.
